Amber Marlow Photography
I live in Brooklyn (Park Slope) with my husband and our rescued lab mix, Leeloo (who was named after the character in The Fifth Element.) We are ethical humanists. I am proud to be a black woman businesses owner. My favourite things are wine + cheese nights, craft beers, giggling with little kids, good design, second-hand bookstores, “that’s what she said” jokes, and when it’s someone’s birthday. I am really, really, really good at backgammon. I believe in kindness, handwritten notes, champagne toasts, doing the fun thing instead of the cool thing, authentic moments, real families, fictive kinship, genuine over perfect, well-made and tailored over trendy fast fashion, old dogs, new passport stamps, live jazz, and classic wedding photos – for you, and for generations to come. My photography style is a combination of candid and editorial (what some might call traditional.) As vogue as it is to say “candid photography is what I want”, formal portraits are very important to me. This is because I am, in a way, a historian, and fifty years from now, well-lit, camera aware portraits that record details are going to be so treasured, by you, and by your grandchildren. Candid, photojournalist photos are taken all throughout the day, starting at the getting ready and especially on the dance floor! I also seek to use some of my candid portrait skills in the editorial portraits. For example, we’ll take the shot of your full body in your wedding gown or tux, but you won’t be instructed to stand there stiffly and smile. We want genuine smiles and organic movement. Speaking of keeping real, I’m woke enough to know that “traditional” can sometimes feel like it’s leaving some folks out, so I say editorial, but I mean the same thing. I adore working with everyone, and we’ll get photos that will look genuine and be cherished, no matter who you are, who you’re marrying, what you’re wearing, or what your gender expression is.
